FRINGE PROGRAMME LINE UP & EVENING VENUE CURATORS ANNOUNCED
In very different fashion from the coinciding Royalist festivities, Gaymers Camden Crawl, scheduled to take place Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May 2011, will celebrate its 10th birthday edition since its inception in 1995 on the May Bank Holiday Weekend.
Swift on the heels of selling out its early bird weekend tickets, the Crawl is pleased to reveal the first stage of its line up announcements for 2011. Over the past four years, the festival’s daytime fringe programme of cutting edge arts and music has continued to flourish on a par with its legendary rock & roll evening extravaganza. During the daylight hours the main thoroughfares of Camden will literally burst at the seams with a vast array of comedic talent, visual art and crafts exhibitions, spoken word and performance theatre, interactive events & games and, of course, live music.
Sprawling across more than twenty venues, the Crawl daytime schedule of events kicks off from midday on both days of the weekend and runs until 6:00 pm when the evening live music scramble begins. Upon arrival at the festival each ticket holder will be presented with an all-access wristband, programme guide, timetable and free download album to help plot his/her day’s adventure. ‘Crawlers’ will be granted unlimited access to all official daytime and evening venues and parties capacity permitting.
The 2011 confirmed daytime fringe line up includes the UKs 2 coolest karaoke shows:
HIP HOP KARAOKE (Saturday @ The Ice Wharf)

With over 150 songs to choose from the set-up includes everything that an authentic hip-hop live show does,. DJ Rob Pursey and comperes Marc Choice and Bobby Champagne Jnr.. Lose yourself!
The ultimate rockstar experience that is Rockaoke first hit the road in 2003 and have since performed with an estimated 24,000 individual lead singers. Rockaoke has slowly been taking over the world residencies in some of London’s most prestigious clubs to high profile appearances at festivals and of course the 2010 Crawl aftershow party.
Recently, ROCKAOKE had the great honour of performing at Alan Shearer’s 40th birthday bash. Superstar guests included Alan Hansen, Iain Dowie and Ant & Dec, and our own guitar hero Dan Richardson got a mention in the paper!
Dan was no doubt thrilled to perform alongside the England footballing legend at this exclusive gig, but there was only one problem – he’s a Sunderland AFC fan! Dan spoke to the Sunderland Echo about his reservations when it came to stepping into Newcastle territory, saying that it was “hard to swallow at first”. Thankfully, he was soon put at ease when he saw that Steve Bruce had been invited too.
Shearer’s birthday own goal
For this special occasion, we were joined onstage by BBC Radio 1 producer Matt Fincham, who filled in on keyboards. Matt had worked with us before when we were on tour with Chris Molyes Live in 2009.
Alan had no idea that our guitarist was a lifelong Sunderland fan, but he nevertheless joined us onstage to belt out a rendition of Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon. We gave him a big intro and he absolutely smashed it!
You can see more pics from this incredible gig by visiting our celeb/high-profile events page. You can also see the full article from the Sunderland Echo here.
Sorry this isn’t a beauty post (but there’s a tenuous link to fitness somewhere!): I have major post-wedding blues after helping organise a brilliant wedding last weekend so I had to write something about it to keep me sane. My friends Louise and Diego hosted the most beautiful, colourful, fun and personal wedding I’ve ever been to: there were home-made decorations and cakes, pretty tables laid with floral runners, rainbow bunting and some seriously good-looking guests (half were Spanish: think tanned, wild and fabulously dressed). It was very special and such an honour to help them with all the prep.
A big highlight was the evening’s entertainment. A few months ago, the bride and I (who have a penchant for karaoke) came across a brilliant act called Rockaoke. The band, of four fun male musicians on lead, bass and drums, belts out rocky classics and dancefloor fillers whilst YOU sing. They have a list of over 100 songs that you can sign yourself up for, with all the lyrics in a book on the stage. So there we were, in a bar in Soho full of complete strangers, singing our little hearts out with a rock band. Watching Louise perform, I knew we had to get them involved in her wedding.
And it happened: Rockaoke was their wedding band and they went down a storm. The first act – one of the bridesmaids – performed a Tina Turner number with all the signature moves, which got the whole crowd signing up for songs. It’s the ultimate limelight fantasy and it doesn’t matter whether you’re good or bad, everyone will sing along and be on your side. The band themselves were brilliant – prompting each performer with their cue to start singing and filling in the lyrics when some guests were too (ahem) excited to follow the words on the book. Everyone was dancing (there’s the fitness part) and most of the guests got to sing, including the Spanish aunties with a lengthy Hey Jude and an 11-year old screaming Kaiser Chief’s Ruby. It was mad and the crowd was electric.
I’ve been to a lot of weddings and this was by far the best band and entertainment I’ve ever seen. If you’re looking for something original, fun and memorable, get clicking and book www.rockaoke.com .

“..the Rockaoke night is the most fun you can have without getting arrested…”
Even though ROCKAOKE had performed around 1,000 gigs with an estimated 25,000 lead singers, the band had never performed in their hometown.
SHEFFIELD
This all changed on 5th may 2010 at around 8.30pm when the mighty ROCKAOKE hit the stage @ The Boardwalk.
Here (see below) is Carl Reid’s EXPOSED Magazine review of ROCKAOKE’s hometown debut. And he’s gonna book the band for his birthday – it’s all down here in black & white!
The phenomenon that is ROCKAOKE was featured in the March 2010 edition of COSMOPOLITAN (see below).
Featured on the “Sex & the (not so) Single Girl” page (p. 25), ROCKAOKE was deemed the sexyest thing of the month. Spare a thought for our old mate JLC who who’s album release was judged to be the saddest!
“ROCKAOKE. It’s cheesy karaoke’s cooler bro, where you sing with an actual live band behind you. Hello rock Goddess!”

In october 2008, ROCKAOKE were invited to Belfast to play The Empire Music Hall – a charity gig in aid of the Alzheimers Society. It was best ROCKAOKE gig of the year!
On 15th October 2009, the band were invited back. Te gig was just as good and just as much fun as the last time. Even better, the band were joined by an amazing line-up of judges – Cool FM’s PETE SNODDEN, West End star and finalist in BBC’s “I’d Do Anything” RACHEL TUCKER and the one and only CHESNEY HAWKES.
The highlight of the night was Chesney joining ROCKAOKE on stage to sing – you guessed it!
